Japan Spring 9D8N

We've always visited Japan in Autumn and this is my first time to experience Spring in Japan. I'm having mixed feelings about this as I do not know if I have a pollen allergy. I do have allergic rhinitis so this adds to my concern.

Bought our tickets early on at 12641.58/pax including 20kg luggage roundtrip. My multiple visa expired September 2024 so was planning to get another Visa by Feb 2025 but then Japanese Embassy suddenly announced they require 2months of processing prior to the trip. I swept the travel agencies in Makati for any agency that is still accepting applications. This was at 2nd week of January but I was told they are only accepting travels April 6 onwards, but our travel date is April 4. It was a nightmare!  Good thing I ranted about this in our group chat and one friend told me she saw a post that hers was still accepted at Pan Pacific. So I hurriedly went to Pan Pacific in V.Rufino. I was told my visa application will be submitted on Feb 24. I can take this risk rather than having to no chances at all.

To add to my dilemma, I realized I did not have the bank certificate in the envelope. I remembered I put it under the tv console to hide from my son (lol). I went to a near Security Bank Branch and requested one but was told they cannot pull my record. I know I was able to get one before at another branch (not the branch where I opened my account). I called my branch and was told that I am correct and I actually can request the other branch to pull my account and print the bank certificate. So I went to the customer service again and told that I spoke with the manager over the phone and was told that this is doable. She explained to me that she can give me the bank certificate now but not the one that was previously issued to me. I said that's ok, I never touched my money anyway. So thanks to Security Bank's bank anywhere I was able to get my bank certificate in Makati even if my bank is in Alabang.

So fast forward, here's what we did in Japan Spring trip.

Amanohashidate & Ine Funaya Day Tour

Amanohashidate & Ine Funaya Day Tour

Got this on Klook as the DIY tour to this place is kind of challenging. It was our first time to get a tour in Japan and personally I will never do that again. The guide speaks in Chinese and English so she has to do twice the work in explaining where we are and where we are heading next and what time the meet up would be.

Anyway, the tour was fun though. I just felt that the start of the tour is so late and that we don't have much time in the attraction.

meeting place, parking lot just outside the Hotel Keihan Kyoto

So first stop was the Funaya Ine Bay where we get to experience  feeding the Seagulls. You can buy the cracker  from the store for  a 100 yen.

From the bus, the guide keeps on promoting the delicious ice cream available in the area. We got so sold that we bought one before boarding the boat only to realize that it was a big mistake. Because we have icecream, we could not feed the seagulls yet and that worry our ice cream will get that bird poop topping or worse get attacked by eagles. Lol. We hid under the shade first while trying to finish the icecream before the tour ends.

It was a fun experience having to offer the cracker in the air and just wait for the seagull to get it.  The guide did warn us to avoid the eagles as they are kind of aggressive and might harm us. But even the seagulls beak is so strong, I felt it must have taken a bit of my finger. I was giggling while waiting for them to dive and scoop the snack.

It was a nice experience and it was a first.

this ice cream that caused us to panic on the boat! lol

the bird whisperer eyy!

The feeding activity lasts for 30mins. After disembarking the boat, we went back to the bus again and was driven to a higher place where we can view the INE BAY from above.

Then there's a stair you can take going down to the BoatHouses. We entered the INE CAFE and took pictures of the bay. You can also buy coffee and lounge here but we opted to explore more in the area.

some pictorial here

We then walked away from INE cafe to get the view of the boathouses along the coastline. Passed by some houses.

We passed by a museum as well but we did not go inside as we want more of the sceneries

view at the back of the parking lot where our bus was parked. We boarded the bus again to our next stop which is the souvernir shop and in time for lunch.

After minutes of scouting the best place to dine in we saw this small restaurant ran by an old couple. Meal is just right but a little pricey than the usual meal we have.

Our guide called us and asked us to get back to the souvenir shop for our tickets to Amanohashidate. There we will ride the chair lift going up.

Amanohashidate, in Northern Kyoto Prefecture, is one of the three most beautiful scenic spots in Japan, along with Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture and Miyajima in Hiroshima Prefecture. I've been to Miyajima already so my next target would be Matsushima to complete the three. Amanohashidate means "bridge to heaven".

this chair lift does not have a seat belt so
better hold the handrail just in case of a sudden stop.

There are nets installed for places that are high but mostly in case you fall, the ground is not too far for most of the ride.

I saw pictures and videos before of this ride and I thought it was scary but after trying one myself, I find it enjoyable. It's like the Flying Fiesta in Enchanted kingdom but kind of chill ride.

see my happy face..

view on my back going up, pardon my forehead

my view going up, there's a cable car you can ride also
if you are not comfortable riding a chair lift

now I see the dragon without even bending down..hahahaha

There are rides you can avail at the top, mostly and best for children- train, carousel, and a ferris wheel.

We were greeted by Cherry Blossoms here, so we took pictures as it was my first to see this in Japan.

Time to go back down to explore the temple and the sand.

the view going down, notice that the chair lift is tilted to the back
to avoid you from submitting to gravity

Chionji Temple

You can explore the sandbar on foot or by bike but given the short time provided by the tour we do not have the luxury to do so. The guide keeps reminding us not to venture too far and be mindful on the schedule of the passing boat since you will not be able to return in time. While we are watching the bridge to part, yeah the process was too slow that you will indeed miss the meeting time in case you are at the other side.

bridge has already parted in order to make way for the small boat to pass

And this ended our tour for this day. Not a fan of tours, but we really just availed this due to transportation difficulty. If ever given the chance, would love to diy this and explore the sandbar area from end to end.

This is the tour we availed in Klook:

Ginkakuji Area/Kyoto Botanical Garden

Today's forecast was rainy but it will clear after an hour so. 1st stop for this day is the Keage Incline, this is a good spot for Cherry Blossoms. We went here last 2023 autumn but while there is foliage, this spot is best for Spring season as the old railway track is lined with Cherry Blossoms. Read somewhere that there are  90 Somei Yoshino sakura. I haven't counted it though..

We did enjoy this spot even though it was drizzling. We even spotted a couple in their wedding dress attire doing some photoshoot. And yeah, how I wished I brought my transparent umbrella. It should have been a perfect addition to the mood.

  • Keage Incline

  • Okazaki Sakura Corridor
Just a short walk from Keage Incline is the Okazaki Sakura Corridor. There is a boat that you can ride to view the Sakura from the river but we opted to just view it from the street and the bridge.

My friend and I are taking our pictures here alternately when a Pinay spotted us and offered to take a picture of us. Kabayan! She's riding her bike and probably was running an errand as she is on her house clothes.
  • Philosopher's Path
  • Our itinerary for this day is jampacked so we reserved our energy and booked Uber to Philosopher's path. I've been to Kyoto a few times before and I've been wanting to visit Philosopher's path but could not do so as usually it's autumn and was told this place is best explored in Spring. And true enough! The walk around this area is such a pleasant experience. Better for couples, walking while holding hands under the shade of the cute Sakura trees.

No wonder Japanese philosopher Nishida Kitaro used this path daily for contemplation and meditation. The path really lives up to it's name. This path is 2-kilometer-long that follows a canal lined with cherry trees, connecting Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion) and Nanzen-ji Temple.

As a general rule in our travel, we take our lunch an hour earlier than the most people, so at 11AM we are already at the restaurant ordering our food. In this area, you can find souvenir shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. Here's what I had for lunch:

  • Ginkakuji Temple (Silver Pavilion)
I have seen the Golden Pavillion last Autumn and the experience was surreal. Like it really left something in me I will not forget. With Ginkakuji though, it was not that amazing but it's still great. I like that we are able to hike up a little and see parts of Kyoto just like in Kyumizudera. I wish there was a Cherry Blossom near the Pavilion just to spark it up.

view from the top

After hiking up a little, we got a little tired and ordered ice cream just outside the gate of Ginkakuji.

We then went souvenir shopping at that same alley before heading to the Botanical Garden. My friend got a Kimmidoll around while I got the mini version for the Keychain. If you are looking for Kimmidoll, I guess better buy here as I was not able to find it in the succeeding days during our trip. For some reason we never took a picture of the items..hahaha.

  • Kyoto Botanical Garden
If you love flowers, you'll definitely love the Botanical Garden. It's like a theme park but for nature lovers as the individual area boasts of different kinds of plants and trees. They have the Rose Garden, Peony Garden, Cherry trees area, Ume Grove. There are tulips too near the Cherry Trees area.

It was still to early to go back to the hotel so we dropped by at Daiso for some shopping and ate dinner at a nearby fastfood.

my dinner, I think this is Ikinari Steak
