Taiwan 6th Day : Northcoast Tour

We got a tour for Northcoast from FB. Pickup point is Watson's Ximen, just outside exit 6. Good thing about this tour is that we are all Filipinos so communication is easy. Cost 900 NTD, and no downpayment needed.

Shifen Old Street
Being pro-environment, my friend and I decided not to fly lanterns for this part of the tour. We just went to some shops, bought souvenirs and tried the peanut roll ice cream. It was delish. The lumpia wrapper is thin, so you can taste the ice cream and the peanut. Cost 60 Ntd.

Shifen Waterfalls
Normal tour drops you off at Old street and you do all the walking from the Old street to the Waterfalls. Ours was not. After the old street, we went back to our Van and the driver dropped us at the area near Shifen Waterfalls. That saved us 30mins of walk.

We were I think given an hour here, so we were able to eat at the stalls. We ordered the juice and the asparagus wrapped in thin sliced of pork more of a bacon. I was scanning at my gallery and did not have a single pic of what we ate and where we got it from.

For the next 3 spots, we did not know that they are all interconnected.

Yin Yang Sea

Notice that the sea has 2 colors - blue and yellow. It's a gloomy day when we got there so you cannot see the actual color but still you can see the contrast. Since the nearby Jinguashi Mountain is rich in pyrite, which forms copper and iron after weathering, an acid called ferrous hydroxide is suspended into the water; this acid absorbs sediment, resulting in the yellowish-blue color that makes the Yinyang Sea so unique.

13 Layer Remains

To the right side of the picture above is the 13 layer remains. This is the old Taijing mining Plant. It is also called the Potala Palace of the Mountain Mines. The mining site is no longer in use since 1973 due to the exhaustion of copper and gold.

Golden Waterfalls

Going further up the 13 remains is the Golden waterfalls. The waterfall is flowing over rust colored rocks and soil due to minerals from mining. This is the same water that flows over to to the sea, creating the Yin Yang sea (as explained by the guide)

While we were riding to Yehliu geopark, last part of our tour, I observed the  direction we are heading to is almost zero visibility. Strong rain has engulfed the place, I askec Kuya driver if we will still be able to enjoy it there. He said it usually rains in that part, it becomes muddy too. So, I said we won't be able to enjoy then since we won't be able to see anything. Rain is strong and the rock formation is literally outside, I had a friend who went there and all his pictures were him with umbrella and raincoat with the rock formations. We then voted and it seems everyone agreed we can let this pass. Kuya took as to Chiang Kai Shek Memorial and the Liberty Arch instead.

Our tour driver dropped as Carrefour for shopping. THis is not included in the itinerary but he just added to this since we there are four of us going there.

Passed by this spot, which is also part of my must see in Ximen Area. I saw a tree here but not sure if it's Sakura. Promised to visit this in the morning to get a closer look. See next day for updated photo.

Taiwan 7th Day : Taipei 101/ Tamsui/Ximen

This last day is just a chill day. It's holiday in Taipei so there are not much people in the area. I got up early and did some walking in the area.

First stop, is the temple just near our accomodation. It's near Ximen MRT exit 6.

Taipei Tianhou Temple

Dropped by at a near Family Mart and bought something to consume while burning calories. lol!

Red House

Red House in the morning when there's not much people.

I passed this tree the night before back from Carrefour and said to myself I will check it out in the morning to see if it's a Cherry Blossoms tree, and glad I did!

This tree is just near the Nishi Higashi Remains. There as shown in the 2nd pic.

the chaos and the art

We went to Taipei 101, it was my second time though the first time I was there at night. We have no plans of getting to the top as it was only a few days ago when the strongest quake rocked Taiwan in 25 years. I don't want to be stuck at the top while the aftershocks are still ongoing.

Jimmy's Moon Bus

- This is a cute spot for Taipei 101. If you love Little Prince, then it's a plus. We enjoyed taking pics here as there was no one inside the bus. There are also English quotes on the walls of the bus.

Here's the inside look of the bus, behind the shelves is a spot where you can pose like a celeb
see photo below

We were supposed to chill at Starbucks but it turned out they don't open early so we head back to the Taipei City Hall station and ate our brunch at the fastfood area. This soup is super delish. Funny thing is we are awaiting for others to finish their meal so we can see where to put the bowl, utensils and the tray but it took a while and still nobody has finished their meal. So i went back to where I ordered the food and was told to leave it at the table as someone will get it. We thought it was CLAYGO.

We headed to Tamsui after eating. We did not expect the crowd though. As it was a holiday, a lot of locals were heading to the same direction. Tamsui is a nice to chill, just walking, shopping and trying some local food.

Tamsui Presbyterian Church
- Founded by George Leslie Mackay and is said to be the earliest church built in Northern Taiwan.

Aletheia University
-  was founded by George Leslie Mackay as Oxford College.

Next stop should be the Lover's Bridge but after a long walk, we decided back to go back home.

Longshan Temple

While my friend is preparing to settle for the night, I excused myself to spend all my EasyCard credits.  I planned to visit the hello kitty 7-11, but decided to visit Longshan and Bopilliao Historical Block too. It's actually better at night, less crowd and the temperature is just right.

 Bopilliao Historical Block

This is a historic street in Wanhua, Taipei, Taiwan. The block is made almost completely of one or two story brick buildings, many dating over 200 years ago and was one of the earliest commercial districts in northern Taiwan. The street houses museums, shops, food options, and art exhibitions. (WIKIPEDIA)

7-11 Hello Kitty

Taiwan has over a hundred customized  7-11 stores and visited this. I visited the Hello Kitty one, not much to see though. Alfort chocolates here are expensive than the regular 7-11. Arggh but since I was already in the store, bought it just to empty my Cooky Ipass Card.
